How to choose a safe AI tool for your child
Before opening anything, check four points: whether it asks for an account, whether it has parental controls, what happens to your child's data, and whether it is free or paid. Those four filters rule out most questionable apps in about two minutes.
- Does it need an account, and from what age? Many services require an adult to create it. Read the terms on the official page, not in a third party review.
- Are there parental controls? Some education platforms let an adult manage access for several children. Others simply open and run.
- What happens to what your child uploads? Photos, voice and text are data. The Scratch Foundation, for example, states that it does not train models on Scratch users' information.
- Free or paid? Almost everything in this guide works without paying. If a tool asks for a card so an 8 year old can draw, you do not need it.
