TKA SD 2027 is Indonesia's Academic Ability Test for Grade 6 primary students, and if it follows the 2026 pattern it will be held around April 2027 in two subjects: Bahasa Indonesia and Mathematics. The official schedule was not out as of 9 October 2026. The test is optional and does not decide graduation, but its score counts in the SPMB junior high merit track, so start maths preparation in Grade 5.
Algonova is an online school for maths, coding, AI, and design for children aged 5-17, with more than 1,000,000 students across 97 countries. Algonova's online maths classes run live with a teacher in groups of up to 10 children, from Rp 102,000 per session, with a 4.9 parent rating. The first session is a free 45-minute diagnostic.
TKA SD is a national standardised test that measures each final-year primary student's academic achievement with the same questions across Indonesia. It is regulated by Ministerial Regulation (Permendikdasmen) No. 9 of 2025, and the first primary-level sitting took place on 20-30 April 2026.
School exams are written and marked by each school, so a score of 85 at two schools can mean different things. TKA uses the same questions and the same marking standard, which is why its results can be used for admissions.
| TKA SD | School exam | |
|---|---|---|
| Run by | Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education | The school |
| Compulsory | No | Yes |
| Decides graduation | No | Yes, as part of school assessment |
| Subjects | Bahasa Indonesia and Mathematics | All subjects |
| Attempts | Once, at the end of the level | Per school calendar |
| Question types | Multiple choice and complex multiple choice, computer-based | Set by the school |
The official explanation of the optional status is in the Ministry's TKA FAQ. One point parents often miss: a student can sit TKA only once per school level, unless they do not graduate.
As of 9 October 2026, the Ministry has not released the official TKA SD 2027 schedule. The best reference right now is the 2026 timetable from the Ministry's press release:
| Stage | TKA SD 2026 dates |
|---|---|
| Registration | 19 January - 28 February 2026 |
| Simulation | 2-8 March 2026 |
| Dress rehearsal | 9-17 March 2026 |
| Main test | 20-30 April 2026 |
| Make-up test | 11-19 May 2026 |
| Results | Late May 2026 |
Two changes for 2027 have been discussed, but neither is final. At a working meeting with Commission X of the House of Representatives on 21 May 2026, Toni Toharudin, head of the Ministry's education policy agency (BKPDM), said the primary and junior high test would be shortened from 4 waves to 2, and that Science (IPA) is being prepared as an extra subject for primary level. Until new rules are published, assume TKA SD 2027 still covers Bahasa Indonesia and Mathematics.
Who sits it? Children now in Grade 6 (school year 2026/2027) are the TKA SD 2027 candidates. Children now in Grade 5 will sit it in 2028 if the pattern holds, and they have the most room to prepare.
Mathematics has the most room for improvement: the 2026 national average for TKA SD was only 43.41, against 60.14 for Bahasa Indonesia. The Ministry announced these figures on 26 May 2026.
According to the Pusmendik assessment framework for primary maths, the tested content falls into three strands:
| Strand | What is tested |
|---|---|
| Numbers | Equivalent fractions, comparing and ordering fractions, links between fractions, decimals, and percentages, the four operations, operations with fractions, multiples, factors, LCM, HCF |
| Geometry and measurement | Flat shapes, cubes and cuboids, units of length, weight, volume, and time, speed, perimeter, area, volume, angles, estimation |
| Data | Pictograms, bar charts, frequency tables, reading and using data |
The official framework does not state how many questions each strand gets. But Numbers has the widest scope, and fractions show up again in measurement and data questions. So if time is short, fractions and word problems pay off most. TKA questions also stress reasoning over memorised formulas, so children need practice with long word problems.

To see the order in which these topics are taught at school, open Grade 5 maths topics and Grade 6 maths topics.
The 2026 national maths average for TKA SD was only 43.41 out of 100. I do not read that as a reason to panic. In our classes the most common gaps are fractions and word problems, and both can be trained within a few months.

A child now in Grade 6 has about six months until the test, enough for one pass through the content and two months of practice with the question formats. The plan below assumes the test is held in April 2027 like last year, with 20-30 minutes of study a day, 5 days a week.
| Month | Study focus | Parent's task |
|---|---|---|
| October 2026 | Baseline check | Have your child do the official Pusmendik sample questions unaided and note which strands go wrong |
| November 2026 | Fractions, decimals, percentages | Check your child can turn 3/4 into 0.75 and 75% without hesitating |
| December 2026 | LCM, HCF, word problems | Use the school holiday for 10-15 word problems a week |
| January 2027 | Geometry and measurement | Ask the school about TKA registration dates |
| February 2027 | Data and complex multiple choice | Practise reading bar charts and tables |
| March 2027 | Computer-based simulation | Try the official simulation with a time limit |
| April 2027 | Test day | Check the session and venue, make sure of enough sleep, no new material |
The official simulation is available at Ayo Coba TKA by Pusmendik.
If your child is in Grade 5 now, the path is more relaxed. Throughout Grade 5, focus on arithmetic, fractions, LCM, and HCF as they come up at school, because Grade 5 report card marks also count in the SPMB merit track. The June-July 2027 holiday is a good time for the first baseline check. After that, follow the table above with every date moved one year later.
If the baseline check shows the weak spot is basic arithmetic rather than one topic, fix the foundation first. Algonova's maths programme for primary school children starts with the diagnostic method, which maps gaps topic by topic before a study schedule is set.
The six questions below cover all three TKA strands and both question types: standard multiple choice and complex multiple choice. We wrote them ourselves following the official framework; they are not real TKA questions.
Question 1 (Numbers, fractions). Rani has 3 1/2 metres of ribbon and uses 1 3/4 metres to wrap a present. How much ribbon is left?
Explanation: use a common denominator. 3 1/2 = 14/4 and 1 3/4 = 7/4. Left over = 14/4 - 7/4 = 7/4 = 1 3/4 metres.
Question 2 (Numbers, ordering fractions). Which is largest: 0.6, 5/8, or 62%?
Explanation: convert everything to decimals. 0.6 = 0.600; 5/8 = 0.625; 62% = 0.620. The answer is 5/8. Questions like this catch children who only look at the number 62.
Question 3 (Numbers, LCM). Bus A leaves the terminal every 15 minutes and bus B every 20 minutes. Both leave together at 06:00. When do they next leave together?
Explanation: the LCM of 15 and 20 is 60, so they next leave together at 07:00.
Question 4 (Numbers, HCF). 36 pencils and 48 exercise books are split into identical packs, as many packs as possible. How many packs are there and what is in each?
Explanation: the HCF of 36 and 48 is 12, so there are 12 packs, each with 3 pencils and 4 exercise books. Similar practice is in our LCM and HCF worked examples.
Question 5 (Measurement, volume). A cuboid bath tank measures 80 cm × 50 cm × 60 cm. How many litres of water fill it completely?
Explanation: volume = 80 × 50 × 60 = 240,000 cm³. Since 1 litre = 1,000 cm³, it holds 240 litres.
Question 6 (Data, complex multiple choice). Books borrowed from the class library: Monday 12, Tuesday 15, Wednesday 9, Thursday 14, Friday 10. Mark each statement true or false:
Explanation: (a) true. (b) true, because 15 - 9 = 6. (c) false, the total is 60 books. In this format children have to check every statement instead of stopping at the first one that looks right.

Speed and price questions often need direct and inverse proportion thinking. For more practice, see our set of Grade 6 maths questions.
Many children work through hundreds of questions without their score moving, because they keep practising what they already know. One diagnostic session at the start saves weeks of practice aimed at the wrong target.

TKA SD scores can be used in the SPMB merit track for junior high, together with report card marks from the last five semesters, from Grade 4 semester 1 to Grade 6 semester 1. The basis is Permendikdasmen No. 3 of 2025 on SPMB and Permendikdasmen No. 9 of 2025 on TKA.
The weight of TKA versus report cards is set by each local government in its SPMB technical guidelines (juknis), and it differs between regions. Check your city or regency education office's guidelines when they are published. In practice, Grade 5 is not a year to coast: both of its semesters count.
The Ministry had not announced the official TKA SD 2027 schedule as of 9 October 2026, but if it follows the 2026 pattern, the main test will be held around April 2027. For reference, TKA SD 2026 ran on 20-30 April 2026 in four waves. Registration was open from 19 January to 28 February, the simulation and dress rehearsal were in March, and the make-up test was on 11-19 May. For 2027 the Ministry has mentioned a plan to shorten the primary and junior high test to two waves, so the date range may be shorter. For example, a family with a child now in Grade 6 can mark January 2027 as the month to ask the class teacher about registration, and March as the month to try the simulation. Watch for the official announcement on the Ministry and Pusmendik websites. Until the dates are out, plan on the assumption that the test falls in late April 2027. The 2026 results were announced nationally in late May.
Until new rules are published, TKA SD has two subjects, Bahasa Indonesia and Mathematics, the same as in 2026. At a working meeting with Commission X of the House of Representatives on 21 May 2026, the Ministry presented a plan to add Science (IPA) for primary level, while junior high is planned to get Science and English. The question framework for the new subjects is still being prepared in stages, so this is not a final decision. For parents, the safest step is to keep the focus on maths and Bahasa Indonesia and strengthen Science through normal school lessons. For example, a child now in Grade 6 does not need a special TKA Science workbook before an assessment framework is published. If Science is added, Pusmendik will publish its assessment framework and sample questions, as it already has for the current two subjects.
No, TKA SD is not compulsory. According to the Ministry, students who feel ready can take it, and there are no consequences for students who do not. The decision still deserves careful thought. TKA results can be used as a requirement or consideration for admission to the next school level, including the SPMB merit track for junior high. A student can also sit TKA only once per school level, unless they do not graduate. Picture two children with similar report cards who both apply to a public junior high through the merit track. The child with a TKA score brings one extra piece of evidence that can be compared across schools, while the child who skipped it relies on report cards alone. How much that counts depends on the local SPMB guidelines. In 2026, participation in TKA SD reached 98.51 percent, so almost every Grade 6 student chose to take it.
No. Primary school graduation is decided by the school based on its own assessment, not by the TKA score, and this is the main difference from the old National Exam. Under the National Exam, students could not be declared graduates without sitting it. TKA is designed differently: it gives a standardised individual report of academic achievement, while the graduation decision stays with the school. Results are issued as a TKA results certificate (SHTKA) that the school downloads and passes on to the student. For example, a child with a low TKA maths score still graduates as long as they meet the school's criteria. The low score only matters if they use the merit track to enter junior high, because the TKA score counts there. So do not put TKA on a child's shoulders as a make-or-break exam. Treat it as a chance to show what they can do and as a learning map before junior high.
Yes, the TKA score can be used in the SPMB merit track for public junior high schools, together with report card marks from the last five semesters, from Grade 4 semester 1 to Grade 6 semester 1. The general rules are in Permendikdasmen No. 3 of 2025 on SPMB and Permendikdasmen No. 9 of 2025 on TKA. The weight of TKA versus report cards is set by each local government in its technical guidelines, so the figure can differ from one city to another. For instance, two families in two different cities may find a different TKA share in their local guidelines. The most accurate source is the SPMB guideline from the education office of the city or regency where your child will apply. Other tracks, such as the residence and affirmative tracks, have their own requirements. If your child is aiming for the merit track, Grade 5 report cards and the TKA score both matter.
TKA SD maths is divided into three strands in the Pusmendik assessment framework: Numbers, Geometry and Measurement, and Data. Numbers covers equivalent fractions, ordering fractions, links between fractions, decimals, and percentages, the four operations, operations with fractions, and multiples, factors, LCM, and HCF. Geometry and Measurement covers flat shapes, cubes and cuboids, units of length, weight, volume, and time, speed, perimeter, area, volume, angles, and estimation. Data covers pictograms, bar charts, frequency tables, and how to use the information in them. The framework does not give a number of questions per strand, but Numbers has the widest scope. A typical question asks how many litres fill a cuboid bath tank, combining volume and unit conversion in one word problem. The questions are the same for the Merdeka Curriculum and the 2013 Curriculum, and they stress reasoning and problem solving.
Preparation is most comfortable from Grade 5, because many core TKA topics such as fractions, LCM, and HCF are taught before Grade 6, and Grade 5 report cards count in the SPMB merit track. Starting in Grade 5 does not mean hours of tutoring. What matters is making sure each school topic is truly understood when it is taught, rather than piling it up to chase in Grade 6. Take Dimas, a Grade 5 student who often gets mixed fractions wrong. If that gap is closed now, in Grade 6 he can spend his time on word problems and simulations instead of revisiting old material. For children already in Grade 6, it is not too late. Six months before April is enough for one pass through the content plus two months of practice with the question formats, as long as it starts with a baseline check.
For most children, six months at 20-30 minutes of study a day is enough, provided their arithmetic and fractions are solid. A rough split is four months reviewing the content strand by strand and two months practising the question formats, including complex multiple choice and the computer-based simulation. Short, regular study is easier to keep up than long weekend sessions that often get cancelled. For example, a Grade 6 child who starts in October can do 5 questions a day on school days. That adds up to about 100 questions a month, enough to see a pattern in the mistakes. Keep every wrong answer in one notebook, because the pattern of mistakes tells you more than the number of questions done. If the baseline check shows gaps in the basics, such as long multiplication or division, add one or two months to close them before moving on to TKA-style practice.
Not always. Children whose school maths marks are steady and who can study independently often manage with regular home practice and the official sample questions. Tutoring helps when a baseline check shows gaps that are hard to close alone, for example a child who knows the formulas but keeps misreading word problems, or parents who have no time to help. Good tutoring starts by mapping weaknesses, not by handing over a pile of questions. For example, a child who keeps getting fraction-to-decimal conversions wrong needs the concept explained again, not 200 extra questions repeating the same mistake. Once the concept is fixed, home practice usually runs smoothly again. At Algonova, maths classes run live with a teacher in groups of up to 10 children, from Rp 102,000 per session. The first session is a free 45-minute diagnostic that shows whether your child actually needs tutoring.
Official practice material is on the Pusmendik website of the Ministry: the TKA assessment framework with sample questions for each subject, and the Ayo Coba TKA menu for simulations. The primary maths framework explains the content strand by strand and gives sample questions with answer keys, including complex multiple choice. The simulation helps children get used to answering on a computer screen, which feels different from working on paper. Each sample question also lists the skill it measures, so parents can see which topic is being practised. For example, your child can do the official sample questions in October as a baseline check, then repeat them in March to see progress. Type pusmendik.kemendikdasmen.go.id/tka into your browser to open it. Be careful with sites offering leaked TKA questions, and treat the official sources as your main reference.
