Program Indonesia Pintar (PIP): A Complete Guide for Parents

Program Indonesia Pintar (PIP) is government education cash assistance for school-age children (6-21 years) from poor or vulnerable families, so they can stay in school and not drop out because of cost. PIP is managed by the Ministry of Education and given directly to students to help meet personal education needs, such as school supplies and transport. This article explains what PIP is, who is eligible, how to check recipient status, how disbursement works, and how it differs from KIP.

What is PIP and how is it different from KIP?

PIP is the programme — the cash assistance itself. KIP (Kartu Indonesia Pintar) is the card — the marker that a child is a target PIP recipient. So a child can hold a KIP as proof, then receive funds through PIP. For university there is a separate programme called KIP Kuliah.

Who is eligible for PIP?

The main target is students from disadvantaged families, especially those registered in the government social data (DTKS) or KKS-holding families. Priority also goes to orphans, children with disabilities, disaster victims, or children at risk of dropping out. The amount differs by level (SD, SMP, SMA/SMK) and can change yearly, so check the latest official figures.

How do you check recipient status and disbursement?

Parents can check a child's recipient status through the official page pip.kemdikbud.go.id by entering the NISN and NIK as required. If a child is designated a recipient, funds are usually disbursed through a distributing bank account (for example a state-owned bank) that must be activated. Activation and disbursement are generally assisted by the school.

Tips for parents

  • Check the accuracy of the NISN, NIK, and Family Card at school — mismatched data is the most common reason assistance is not disbursed.
  • Follow information from the homeroom teacher; do not just wait.
  • PIP charges no fees. Beware of scams asking for payment in the programme's name.

PIP helps cover basic education costs. To equip children with 21st-century skills, Algonova teaches coding, maths, and AI for children aged 5-17 in small online classes.
