Sekolah Kedinasan (Official Service Colleges): List, Requirements, and How to Get In

Sekolah kedinasan are higher-education institutions run by a ministry or government agency, whose graduates often have a pathway or bond to become civil servants (ASN) or work in the related agency. They are a favourite among many Indonesian families because tuition is generally light (some are even free and residential) and the career path is clear. This article explains what sekolah kedinasan are, popular examples, general requirements, selection stages, and how to prepare a child.

Some of the most sought-after:

  • PKN STAN (Ministry of Finance) — finance and taxation.
  • IPDN (Ministry of Home Affairs) — governance.
  • STIS / Politeknik Statistika (BPS) — statistics.
  • STMKG (BMKG) — meteorology and geophysics.
  • Poltekip & Poltekim (Ministry of Law) — corrections and immigration.
  • Schools within the TNI/Polri such as Akmil, Akpol, and other service academies.

Who is eligible and what are the general requirements?

Generally for SMA/SMK/MA graduates or final-year students. Commonly required: Indonesian citizenship, an age limit, minimum report-card or diploma grades, physical and mental fitness, and freedom from disqualifying criteria (for example colour blindness for certain majors). Each school has its own specific requirements, so always read the official announcement.

How do you register and what are the stages?

Registration for sekolah kedinasan is generally opened once a year through the DIKDIN SSCASN portal run by BKN (dikdin.bkn.go.id), followed by each agency's own selection. Typical stages:

  1. Online registration and document upload
  2. Administrative screening
  3. Basic Competency Test (SKD) via computer (CAT)
  4. Follow-up tests per agency (health, physical/kesamaptaan, psychology, interview)
  5. Announcement of results

Because schedules change each year, follow the official BKN and destination-agency announcements.

Preparation tips

A decisive factor at many sekolah kedinasan is the SKD, which includes a General Intelligence Test — covering numerical ability and logic. Practising mathematical and logical reasoning early helps a lot. At Algonova we teach maths, coding, and AI for children aged 5-17 that build habits of logical thinking and problem-solving — a foundation useful for tests like the SKD and UTBK. Try a free Master Class. If your child is still weighing the general-university path, also read our UTBK guide.

Note: This guide is general and informational. Requirements, eligibility, schedules, and official amounts can change each year — always check the latest official sources. Algonova is an online coding and math school for children, not the organizer of this program.
