Math Starters is the Algonova maths track for children aged 6–7, who in Indonesia are usually in kelas 1–2 SD. It is the first of three maths tracks at Algonova: Math Starters (ages 6–7), Math Explorers (ages 8–12) and Math Masters (ages 13–17).

In Math Starters children learn numbers 1–100, addition and subtraction up to 100, shapes and basic geometry, simple measurement, patterns and logical thinking. Everything is taught visually and through games.

How long is one Math Starters class?

A regular Math Starters class lasts 90 minutes, once a week. This duration is the same across every maths and coding track at Algonova.

Three different things are often confused: the free diagnostic lasts 45 minutes, the introductory master class lasts 60 minutes, and a regular lesson lasts 90 minutes.

Inside a 90-minute class activities rotate — concept explanation, guided practice, games — so a 6–7 year old is not sitting still the whole time.

What is the difference between Math Starters and Math Explorers?

Math Starters is for children aged 6–7 (kelas 1–2 SD) and focuses on foundations: numbers 1–100, addition and subtraction, shapes and basic geometry, patterns and logical thinking.

Math Explorers is for children aged 8–12 (kelas 3–6 SD) and continues into multiplication and division, fractions, decimals, percentages, perimeter and area, and word problems.

Children usually move from Math Starters to Math Explorers at age 8, once the number and basic operation foundation is solid. The move is not automatic on a birthday — the teacher and the diagnostic decide readiness.

Are Math Starters classes fully online?

Yes. Math Starters classes run online with live sessions taught by certified teachers — not recorded videos. The child has two-way interaction with the teacher throughout the class.

To join, a child needs a computer or laptop with a camera, a stable internet connection, and a headset. The Algonova platform runs directly in the browser, so no special software installation is required.

Children can write in a notebook or on a tablet beside the laptop during class.

How can a 6–7 year old stay focused in an online class?

Math Starters classes are built around how children this age learn. Every concept starts as a shape, an object or a story before moving to numbers and symbols — visual blocks for place value, real objects for addition.
